Deepika Padukone says India has been robbed of Oscars many times: 'When they announced the Oscar for 'RRR', I got emotional'

Deepika Padukone made headlines for presenting at the 2023 Oscars, and her global persona never failed to charm fans and followers. Recently, ‘All We Imagine As Light’ and ‘Laapataa Ladies’ were sweeping global platforms with numerous accolades but could not make it to the final list of the Oscars 2025, leaving Indians heavy-hearted. Now, Deepika has taken to her Instagram account to share a video about the debate surrounding Indian films being snubbed at the Oscars.
    watch the video here:
In the recent video, Deepika answered the question, “What’s an Oscar win that felt personal for you?” The Jawan actress revealed that she is personally very happy for the 51-year-old actor Adrien Brody, who took home his second acting Oscar for his lead role in Brady Corbet’s historical epic The Brutalist this year. He earned his first Oscar in 2003 for The Pianist. “Yeah, I’m very happy for Adrien Brody,” she was heard saying during one of her make-up sessions.

She further spoke about how Indian movies and talent had not been recognised for several years at the Academy Awards. However, the actress also revealed how she became emotional when the jury announced the Academy Award for SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR‘. “India has been robbed of the Oscars many times. Many, many deserving movies, I feel, just get snubbed. Whether it’s movies or talent,” she stated.

Deepika became emotional while saying, “But I remember being in the audience, and when they announced RRR, I got emotional. RRR! Outside of being an Indian, I have really nothing to do with that movie, but that was a huge, huge moment. That felt very, very personal. With all of that.”
Deepika presented ‘RRR’s Oscar-nominated song ‘Naatu Naatu’ at the awards ceremony in 2023. The song was awarded the Best Original Song that year.
