Pradeep Ranganathan’s latest film, Dragon, has opened to a strong start at the box office, collecting Rs 6 crore on its first day. The film, co-written by Pradeep himself along with director Ashwath Marimuthu, stars Anupama Parameswaran and Kayadu Lohar in key roles.
Dragon follows the journey of Ragavan “Dragon” Dhanapal, a bright and obedient student in school. However, after being rejected by a girl for not being a ‘bad boy,’ he undergoes a drastic transformation, becoming a notorious college troublemaker. Instead of focusing on his studies, he racks up 48 arrears and refuses to clear them. Despite pretending to his parents that he has a respectable job, he spends his days idling at a friend’s house. His wake-up call arrives when his college girlfriend, Keerthi (played by Anupama) , breaks up with him due to his reckless behavior. This heartbreak becomes the catalyst for his redemption and self-discovery.
The film’s unique blend of humor, romance, and self-transformation has struck a chord with audiences, particularly the youth. Pradeep Ranganathan, who gained immense popularity with Love Today, has once again delivered a relatable story with mass appeal. Anupama Parameswaran and Kayadu Lohar’s performances add emotional depth to the narrative, complementing Pradeep’s energy on screen.
With a Rs 6 crore opening, Dragon has set the stage for a strong box office run. If the film continues to garner positive word-of-mouth, it could become another major success for Pradeep Ranganathan. Not many would be aware that Pradeep was the writer-director -actor of 2022 mega hit Love Today which was recently remade in Hindi as Loveyapa which starred Aamir Khan’s son Juniad and Sridevi’s daughter Khushi Kapoor. While the Tamil version created magic at the box office, the Hindi version struggled to stay afloat. But both the lead actors were appreciated for their act in the film and have a few more films line dup to prove themselves.
