In a tragic turn of events Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa, were found dead alongside their dog at their residence in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA. The officials have assured that while the reason for their demise is unknown, it is not a foul play.
Gene, the actor who was awarded Oscars, BAFTAs, and Golden Globes, married twice in his life. With Arakawa, he was said to have a longer, better, and more peaceful life than the previous one after getting married in 1991. In contrast, his marriage with Faye Maltese, the ex-wife, was said to be a troubled one with issues flooding up the amicable marriage. Hackman shared three children with Maltese – Christopher Allen, Elizabeth Jean, and Leslie Anne Hackman, according to the Daily Mail.
The couple met in 1955 when Gene was a struggling 25-year-old actor. They crossed paths at the Y.YMCA dance in the Big Apple, Haand man and the ‘pretty and dark-haired’ secretary of Rockafellar Center were head over heels for each other. The pair had to live in a nefarious part of the city with no hot water access.
The trouble in the paradise was allegedly due to Hackman’s rising fame, and undermining his family life. While trying to get his big break in the industry, Hackman was fairly absent from the family, straining the relationships. In 1986, Gene and Faye got divorced.
Arakawa, a Hawaiian classical pianist, began dating Hackman in the mid-80s, after drifting apart from Maltese. The duo met at the gym, where she worked part-time while working on her music, as per People. According to the Chicago Tribune, after getting married to Betsy, she rekindled Gene’s strained relationship with his children and encouraged him to start inviting them over.
The ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ actor spent his last few years with his wife, having the time of their lives where many fans even spotted the duo having lunch together.
