One of 2023’s standout films, ‘Animal‘, features a main villain who never speaks a word. Recently, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga explained his decision to depict Bobby Deol’s character as both hearing-impaired and speech-impaired.
During his appearance on Game Changers, Vanga stated, “We have seen a lot of films where the hero and villain pick up the phone and abuse each other, or there is some sort of dialoguebaazi throughout the film”. The film’s first half focuses on developing Ranbir Kapoor’s character and his love for his father, portrayed by Anil Kapoor, before Deol’s character makes his entrance.
The filmmaker explained his reasoning behind this choice: “Since we have seen a lot of such exchanges in our films, I just thought of sketching him as a mute and a deaf person. The very idea of a deaf-and-mute person fighting in the climax was such an exciting idea,” he said.
Following his success in ‘Animal’, Bobby has experienced a significant rebirth in Indian cinema, particularly in the South. He has already portrayed the antagonist in prominent films such as Suriya’s ‘Kanguva’ and is currently involved in actor-turned-politician Vijay’s final film.
Meanwhile, Sandeep Reddy Vanga has turned his attention to his next project, ‘Spirit’, which marks his inaugural collaboration with Prabhas. This cop drama boasts a high budget and has rapidly become one of the most eagerly awaited Indian films, largely due to the tough pairing of Vanga and Prabhas, who are a genuine pan-Indian sensation. In addition to ‘Spirit’, Prabhas has a various slate of upcoming films, including ‘The Raja Saab’, ‘Fauji’, ‘Salaar 2’ and ‘Kalki 2’.
