The India Vs Pakistan match had everyone glued to the live streaming which is also used as a great opportunity for marketers to promote their advertisements. Meanwhile, a ad which was played during the match has faced a lot of backlash on the internet. This was the LIC insurance ad by policy bazar.
This particular commercial features a woman expressing frustration as her husband dies but he failed to purchase term life insurance. She says in this ad, “Main school ki fees kaise bharungi, ghar ka kharcha bhi hai?” (How will I pay the school fees? There are also household expenses…). She then looks at a framed photograph of her deceased husband, draped with a garland and questions him, “Tum toh term life insurance liye bina hi chale gaye (You left without even buying term life insurance).”
While this ad was obviously aimed at spreading awareness regarding financial security, it has not gone down well with netizens as many felt it was worse than Ranveer Allahbadia‘s recent comments. For those not in the know, Ranveer has been in the midst of controversy as he faced backlash for his comment on Samay Raina’s show ‘India’s Got Latent’. He asked a contestant, “Would you rather watch your parents have sex for the rest of your life or would you join in once and stop it forever?”
Several FIRs have also been filed against Ranveer for his insensitive comment. Meanwhile, here’s how the internet has reacted to this LIC ad. One user wrote, “A man just passed away and the first thing his wife does is blame him for not buying term insurance? This isn’t financial awareness, it’s just insensitive storytelling.”
Another user commented and said, “not only insensitive but disgusting.” A person wrote, “Insult to men and humanity. Worse than Ranveer Allahbadia.” A person expressed, “Even the way she delivers her dialogues is filled with anger towards her late husband. How insensitive can the writers and makers of this ad be.”
However, many users also came in support of this ad and said that this is the reality!
