ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Proud PM Narendra Modi congratulated India on New Zealand win, saying that the team had made a ‘splendid display’ during the tournament.

In a post on X minutes after India won the ICC Champions Trophy for the third time ever, PM Modi congratulated the Indian team led by Rohit Sharma.

“An exceptional game and an exceptional result! Proud of our cricket team for bringing home the ICC Champions Trophy. They’ve played wonderfully through the tournament. Congratulations to our team for the splendid all around display,” he said.

An elegant half-century from skipper Rohit Sharma, fine knocks by Shreyas Iyer and fine spells from spinners, in particular Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav, helped an all-round India seal their third ICC Champions Trophy title, beating New Zealand by four wickets in Dubai on Sunday.

Rohit Sharma’s 76 runs off 83 balls helped India secure the win even when the team lost wickets in quick successions, with Virat Kohli scoring 1 run off 1 ball.

Amit Shah wishes India: ‘A victory that…’

In a message to India for the win, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the team’s “fiery energy and unassailable dominance” on the pitch made the country proud.

“A victory that scripts history. Congratulations to Team India on clinching a stunning victory in the ICC #ChampionsTrophy2025,” he said.

“Your fiery energy and unassailable dominance on the pitch made the nation proud, setting a new benchmark for cricketing excellence. May you always come off with flying colors,” Shah added.

Sachin Tendulkar, Harsh Goenka, others congratulate India

Indian cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar joined the nation to congratulate team India for their win against New Zealand at the ICC Champions Trophy.

“Champions Trophy CHAMPION…. Yeeeeehhhhh…. [sic],” Tendulkar wrote on X.

Industrialist Harsh Goenka, Microsoft’s Indian-origin CEO Satya Nadella and others also sent wishes for the team.

“India’s Champions Trophy victory is not just a win—it’s a statement. In a tournament where the best in the world competed, we remained undefeated, dominant, and unshaken,” the RPG Enterprises chairperson said.

“The stock market may rise and fall, but Indian cricket remains on an unstoppable bull run. The Champions Trophy is back where it belongs,” he added.

Satya Nadella made a special shoutout to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in his congratulatory message.

“Congratulations to Team India on their incredible victory in the Champions Trophy final against New Zealand! 🏆👏 Special shoutout to @ImRo45 and @imVkohli for their stellar performances. Legends! 🙌 #ChampionsTrophy2025 #INDvNZ,” he said.

India won the trophy without losing a match, reflecting their dominance in the tournament which they won back in 2002 and 2013. No other team has won the event thrice.
