    Shankar Mahadevan pays tribute to Zakir Hussain on his birth anniversary: ‘Keep blessing us from above’

    On the 74th birth anniversary of legendary tabla maestro Zakir Hussain, heartfelt tributes poured in from fans and celebrities alike. Among them, singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan shared an emotional message on social media, remembering his late mentor and guru.
    Taking to Instagram, Shankar Mahadevan posted a selfie with Zakir Hussain, both dressed in traditional attire, beaming with joy. In his touching note, he wrote, “Happiest birthday to my dearest Guru, mentor, and guiding light! Keep blessing us from above! You are there for us always, everywhere, all the time! Remember you in each note of music that plays. Love you, Zakirbhai… forever.”

    Zakir Hussain, known for his unparalleled contribution to Indian classical and fusion music, passed away at the age of 73 in San Francisco due to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a chronic lung disease. According to his family’s statement, he had been hospitalized for two weeks before his demise and was moved to the ICU due to deteriorating health. His passing marked the end of an era in the world of percussion, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire musicians globally.
    Son of the legendary tabla player Ustad Alla Rakha, Zakir Hussain played a pivotal role in taking Indian classical music to international audiences.
    The news of his passing in February had left the music fraternity in deep sorrow, with artists and admirers sharing their grief. Now, on what would have been his 74th birthday, Shankar Mahadevan’s heartfelt words connect with many who continue to cherish Zakir Hussain’s music and teachings.
