Dhanashree Verma and Yuzvendra Chahal are making headlines due to rumours and reports about their divorce. The couple, who tied the knot in 2020, had a unique love story that blossomed during the lockdown. There was a time when Chahal shared how he fell in love with Dhanashree and decided to marry her without even dating.
In an old conversation with Ranveer Allahbadia on his YouTube channel, Chahal detailed how their bond grew. During the lockdown, he wanted to learn dance as he had nothing else to do. He sent a message to Dhanashree after seeing her dance reels on social media. “I messaged her, asking if she took dance classes. Online classes started from there. In the first couple of months, we only spoke about dance,” he said.
As their interactions continued, their conversations moved beyond dance. “One night, I was sitting and I messaged her, saying, ‘I want to ask you something.’ I asked her how she remained so happy in everything, even during the lockdown. Our proper interaction started from there. I liked her vibe – she’s a self-made woman, like me. I really liked her, and then I told my mum and dad about it.”
Despite knowing each other for only a short time, Chahal was confident about his feelings and wasted no time in making his intentions clear. “I told her straightaway, I don’t want to date you, I want to marry you. I was sure that she was the one,” he said.
At the same time, Dhanashree revealed that it was Chahal’s honesty and humility that won her over. She shared that the cricketer had made his debut at a time when she had stopped watching cricket and had no idea who he was. She admired his sincerity in learning to dance and how dedicated he was. “I liked the direct approach. He was straight up, saying, ‘Mujhe shaadi karni hai’,” she shared.
When Chahal asked her on a date over the weekend, she immediately informed her mother. “He was like, ‘Can you give me one Saturday of yours?’ Then I told my mum, and her first reaction was, ‘Gaya student.’ But the way he approached me was very decent; you don’t get to see that,” she concluded.
Speculation about Yuzvendra and Dhanashree’s separation gained momentum after the couple unfollowed each other on Instagram, fuelling widespread rumours about their marriage. Now, the cricketer’s legal representative has officially confirmed that the two have initiated divorce proceedings.
In a statement to Hindustan Times, Chahal’s lawyer, Nitin K Gupta, disclosed, “Mr Chahal has reached a settlement for obtaining a divorce by mutual consent with Mrs Verma. A petition for divorce by mutual consent was presented before the Hon’ble Family Court, Bandra. The matter is currently sub judice.”
Amid the legal proceedings, reports surfaced suggesting that Dhanashree was seeking a Rs60 crore alimony settlement. However, her family has strongly denied these claims, calling them baseless and misleading.
