Chhaava box office collection Day 34: Vicky Kaushal starrer crosses Rs 570 crore mark; sees growth amidst calls to boycott actor following Nagpur violence

Vicky Kaushal’s historical epic, Chhaava, continues its impressive run at the Indian box office. The film that is in its fifth week of release, crossed the Rs 570 crore mark on its 34th day, setting in on-course to a Rs 600 crore finish at the box office.
According to early estimates on sacnilk, the film earned around Rs 2.70 crore net for all languages. The film saw minimal growth from Tuesday’s collection of approximately Rs 2.65 crore.
After an impressive run, clocking an estimated Rs 219.25 crore in week 1, followed by Rs 180.25 crore in week 2, Rs 84.05 crore in week 3 and Rs 55.95 crore in week 4, the film earned an estimated Rs 31.15 crore in week 5 thus far. This brings its total domestic net collection to an estimated Rs 570.31 crore.
Despite its commercial success, Chhaava has been embroiled in controversy following recent violence in Nagpur. The unrest, linked to protests over Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb, has led some to allege that the film’s portrayal of historical events incited anti-Mughal sentiments, contributing to the clashes.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis commented on the situation, stating that the film “ignited anger against Aurangzeb,” suggesting a connection between the movie’s narrative and the recent violence.
In response to these allegations, fans and supporters of Vicky Kaushal have come forward to defend the actor and the film. They argue that attributing the violence to Chhaava is ‘misguided’.
Despite the controversy and calls for a boycott, Chhaava has maintained a steady performance at the box office and even saw minimal growth in numbers following the controversy.
