Social media influencer and actress Apoorva Mukhija has finally returned to Instagram after a month-long hiatus following the controversy surrounding her appearance on India’s Got Latent. The episode, which also featured content creators Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, sparked outrage due to offensive remarks made on the show, leading to severe backlash.
On March 13, Apoorva posted a cryptic message on her broadcast channel, writing, “Diwaaro ke bhi kaan hote hain” (Even walls have ears). She followed it up with another message thanking her followers, saying, “So thank you.” Her last message before this, posted on February 10, read, “This is not how I should be rn,” coinciding with Ranveer Allahbadia’s public apology video for his controversial comments.
Apoorva, along with Ranveer, had appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) earlier this month to submit written apologies. In a video shared by ANI, she was seen exiting the Khar police station last month, covering her face with a mask and avoiding media questions.
The controversy had significant repercussions for everyone involved. Following public outrage, all episodes of India’s Got Latent were taken down from YouTube. Reports suggest that Apoorva also received threats on social media, which contributed to her decision to step away from public appearances.
Beyond the controversy, Apoorva was recently seen in Nadaaniyan, starring Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor, which premiered on OTT last week. However, she was noticeably absent from all promotional events and did not post anything about the film on her social media.
Meanwhile, the India’s Got Latent incident has led to calls for stricter digital content regulations. A parliamentary committee has reached out to the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, urging for new laws to govern content on podcasts and OTT platforms.
