Ayesha Takia’s husband, Farhan Azmi, was booked by the Goa police for allegedly causing a disturbance in the Candolim area over rash driving. The actress has now spoken out about the incident, claiming that Farhan and their son were brutally bullied by local residents. They were reportedly tormented for hours, with locals cursing them for being from Maharashtra and driving a large car. She shared that Farhan had called the police for help, but instead of receiving assistance, he ended up being charged.
According to a report in Hindustan Times, Goa police booked the businessman and two local residents on Monday evening. The incident occurred when Farhan, driving a luxury SUV, was stopped by locals in Candolim who accused him of rash driving. Farhan called the police and warned the locals to back off, mentioning he had a licensed firearm.
Ayesha shared her account on Instagram, writing, “It was a night of horror for our family up until this morning… Just saw this post and need to share. I will share more in due time… My husband and son were brutally bullied and scared for their life as local goan goons mobbed, threatened and tormented them for hours… They even badly roughed up the police who were called by my husband to protect our son and him.”
She further added, “The hatred for Maharashtra has reached unbelievable heights in goa…as they repeatedly cursed Farhan and my son for being from Maharashtra and having a big car. The police in turn, have filed a complaint against Farhan when he was the one in fact who dialed 100 for help against the large crowd of almost 150 people.”
Takia mentioned that they have video evidence, including CCTV footage, to share with the authorities. She wrote, “We have video proof and evidence, including cctv footage, which will be shared with competent authorities in due course of time. We are cooperating with the law enforcement agencies, and we believe in justice of the system and our Indian courts”.
Akshat Kaushal, the North Goa Superintendent of Police, explained to Hindustan Times that upon arrival, the police were prevented by locals from taking the driver to the station. “Finally, both parties involved in the altercation were brought to Calangute police station. They were given the opportunity to file complaints but both parties refused to do so,” he stated. He further noted that since the altercation occurred in a public place and disturbed the peace, a state-initiated complaint was filed by Police Sub Inspector Paresh Sinari of Calangute Police Station.
