Brad Pitt and his non-profit foundation get SUED by the victims of Hurricane Katrina

Brad Pitt, the ‘F1’ actor, and his housing non-profit organization ‘Make It Right Foundation’ are getting sued in a class action lawsuit filed by the victims of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, who had faulty homes built by the charity.

    The Lawsuit

According to The U.S Sun, the actor is getting sued along with his charity and has to submit all the sensitive vital 100,000 documents. The homeowners’ legal team, Ron Austin Law, made the non-profit organization hand over the documents through the district court.
Looking forward to his movie release, Brad Pitt tried to block the deposition as he is currently busy with his movie schedule, while his legal team filed a motion for him to be not deposed as he had no relevant information.
Brad’s lawyers claimed in the motion filed last April, that he would face additional legal issues from the production studios if he did not respect the film schedule. “In addition, it is likely Mr. Pitt will be on location in Europe over the next several months, meaning that any in-person deposition will involve costly and time-consuming travel,” the motion stated.
The judge commented that the opposition requires time to check the documents, dismissing the motion. The documents included, “approximately 195 boxes, 13 filing cabinets, the IT server, and 13 desktops and laptops. These contents fill three rooms.”

    The Project

‘Make It Right Foundation’ built 109 houses for the people who suffered the 2005 Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans which was deemed a ‘saviour’. However, the homeowners have been battling for years for major repairs and many houses didn’t fit the purpose.
The locals have complained about the toxic moulds and rising levels of carbon dioxide, causing health issues.
In 2022, Global Green, Pitt backed charity was supposed to pay $20.5 million as a settlement on behalf of Brad Pitt and Make It Right. However, it was later discovered that they never had such an amount of money in the first place.
