In January, the court had issued a non-bailable warrant against Ram Gopal Varma in a cheque bounce case. The Judicial Magistrate in Andheri, YP Pujari had issued the warrant as RGV was convicted under the provisions of the Negotiable Instruments Act. Varma was sentenced to three months in Jail and he was also ordered by the court to pay Rs 3,72,219 to the complainant.
For those not in the know, RGV was convicted under the Section 138 of the Negotiable Instrument Act, which penalises cheque dishonour due to insufficient funds or exceeding the account’s arranged limit. The case was filed against the film-maker by a film called Shree in 2018. After he was sentenced to three months Jail, the film-maker had filed a plea to the court on February 15 for bail and suspension of his punishment. The person who filed the complaint has accused that RGV issued a cheque on June 1, 2018 which was dishonoured for insufficient funds.
But, the court had ordered that they will give the order when a hearing will take place in March. Now as per the latest hearing, Sessions Judge AA Kulkarni has rejected Varma’s plea and issued a non-bailable warrant as he did not appear before court earlier, according to PTI. The matter has been adjourned to July 28 for execution of the warrant.
On work front, Varma has not made a movie in a while. His iconic film ‘Satya’ had recently re-released and he had also announced that he will begin work on his next project soon.
