Back in the day, Govinda and Neelam Kothari made a picture-perfect on-screen pair. From their songs like ‘Dil Behelta Hai Mera Aapke Aa Jaane Se,’ to movies like ‘Love 86,’ their chemistry was unmatched. And reports suggest their chemistry wasn’t limited to only the big screen.
Allegedly Govinda fell in love with Neelam while he was already engaged to Sunita. In an old interview with Stardust, Govinda had spoken about his equation with both of them.
“After I started getting busier, my relationship with Sunita went through a change. She began feeling insecure and jealous. And I was of no help. She would nag me and I would lose my temper. We had constant fights. In one of those fights, Sunita said something about Neelam, and I lost my head and called it quits. I asked Sunita to leave me. I broke off my engagement with her. And had Sunita not called me after five days and coaxed me into it again, I would probably have married Neelam,” he shared.
Following that, Govinda and Sunita got married in a private ceremony and decided to keep their wedding under wraps as the actor was concerned about the impact on his career. Nevertheless, Govinda felt remorseful for not letting Neelam know about it. “Neither did Neelam know about it. She got to know only after a year. I probably did not tell her because I did not want to break this successful screen pair. And to be honest, to a certain extent, I did exploit my personal relationship with Neelam for professional ends. I played dirty with her. I should have told her that I was married,” he added.
Currently, Govinda and Sunita Ahuja’s marriage is facing turbulence, as they are heading for a divorce. A source close to the family confirmed to us that Sunita sent a separation notice months ago, but no movement has been made since then,
