Divya Dutta defends Rashmika Mandanna against criticism for her role in Vicky Kaushal's 'Chhaava': 'We gave our best, and now the audience is doing theirs'

Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna starrer ‘Chhaava’ is running successfully in theatres ever since its release on February 14. However, there was a group of people who did not appreciate Rashmika Mandanna’s portrayal of Maharani Yesubai Bhonsale. Now, her co-star, Divya Dutta, has come forward to offer strong support for Rashmika.
In an interview with India Today, Divya called Rashmika an ‘incredible actor’ and praised her talent, even though they had no scenes together in the film. “If you look at her kohl-rimmed eyes in certain scenes, they are simply mesmerising. Let’s not forget that she has delivered several hits, which clearly means she has something that resonates with the audience.” Divya described her as hardworking and a genuinely sweet person. “Mujhe toh bahut pyaari lagti hai (I find her adorable),” the ‘Dhaakad’ actress added.

Divya acknowledged the mixed audience reactions to Rashmika’s performance and called them natural. She highlighted that while some viewers may wish for longer roles, others appreciate the existing performances. Regardless of individual opinions, she stressed that both she and Rashmika gave their best, and the film’s box office success is what truly matters and deserves celebration. “Whether it’s for me or Rashmika, we gave our best, others did their part, and now the audience is doing theirs.” she added.
Earlier, Rashmika also addressed the criticism in a social media post after some netizens voiced their dissatisfaction over her dialogue delivery.
Directed by Laxman Utekar, ‘Chhaava’ revolves around the story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Adapted from Shivaji Sawant’s Marathi novel Chhava, the film also features Vineet Kumar Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Diana Penty, Neil Bhoopalam, and Ashutosh Rana. According to Sacnilk, ‘Chhaava’ has amassed a staggering Rs 338 crore globally within just eight days of its release.
