Disha Salian‘s father, Satish Salian, wants the Bombay High Court to reopen the investigation into her death in 2020. He’s asking for an FIR against Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray and wants the CBI to take over the case. A Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson suspects a conspiracy behind this sudden move after four years, as per PTI.
During the ongoing Maharashtra legislature’s Budget session, Satish Salian’s lawyer, Nilesh Ojha, stated they are filing a petition in the Bombay High Court for a fresh investigation into Disha Salian’s death. They allege she was raped and murdered, with a subsequent political cover-up to shield influential individuals. The petition is expected to be officially numbered on Thursday.
The petitioner’s view has shifted from believing in the goodness of the Mumbai police’s investigation to suspecting a cover-up. The petition asserts that “the Mumbai police hastily closed the death as a case of suicide or accidental death without taking into account forensic evidence, circumstantial proof and eyewitness testimonies.”
Disha Salian died on June 8, 2020, after falling from the 14th floor of a Malad building, leading to an Accidental Death Report. Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Bandra apartment on June 14, 2020. Initially ruled a suicide, his case was later taken over by the CBI. Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Kishori Pednekar suspects a conspiracy behind Satish Salian’s plea for a fresh investigation into Disha’s death.
“Someone is behind it, and there is a conspiracy. How come this matter has come under the spotlight after more than four years? The CID conducted an enquiry, there is already an SIT (formed to probe the matter),” Pednekar said in her reaction.
BJP minister Nitesh Rane, on the other hand, sealed the development to target Aaditya Thackeray, a former Maharashtra minister. “Aaditya Thackeray should speak the truth. He should resign as an MLA and face the probe,” Rane told journalists.
Nitesh Rane, son of Narayan Rane, claims Disha Salian was murdered, alleging CCTV footage vanished and visitor logs were torn. The Ranes and Thackerays are long-time rivals. Rane stated, “I have been saying this from day one that Disha Salian was murdered.”
Maharashtra Minister of State in the Home Department, Yogesh Kadam, has stated that if Disha Salian’s father possesses any evidence related to her death, he should submit it to the home department. Kadam added, “We will follow whatever direction the High Court gives. There will be no party politics in the probe”.
