John Abraham’s The Diplomat surpasses Vedaa’s first-week box office collection

John Abraham’s latest release, The Diplomat, has outperformed his last film, Vedaa, in its first-week box office collections. The political thriller, which opened in cinemas on April 11, has managed to collect approximately Rs 19.1 crore in its first seven days, surpassing Vedaa’s first-week total of Rs 17.6 crore.

The Diplomat started its box office journey with a Rs 4 crore opening on Friday, which was lower than Vedaa’s Rs 6.3 crore first-day collection. However, while Vedaa witnessed a sharp 71% drop on its second day, The Diplomat maintained stability with a 16.25% growth on Saturday, collecting Rs 4.65 crore. The momentum continued on Sunday with the same Rs 4.65 crore figure, helping the film achieve a strong weekend total of Rs 13.3 crore, compared to Vedaa’s Rs 14.8 crore weekend.
The real difference emerged in the weekday trend. While Vedaa saw major drops, slipping to Rs 60 lakh by Thursday, The Diplomat maintained a better hold. Monday’s drop for The Diplomat was significant at 67.74%, bringing in Rs 1.5 crore, but it remained steady in the following days, earning Rs 1.45 crore on Tuesday, Rs 1.5 crore on Wednesday, and an estimated Rs 1.35 crore on Thursday. These consistent numbers allowed The Diplomat to surpass Vedaa’s first-week total.
John Abraham’s transition from action-heavy roles to politically charged thrillers seems to be resonating with audiences. While The Diplomat still has a long way to go to become a box office success, its stable trend suggests it might have a stronger lifetime run than Vedaa, which struggled from the first week itself . With positive word of mouth, The Diplomat could continue its steady box office journey in the coming days.
At present John doesn’t seem to have another film on floor but his film Tehran with Manushi Chhillar has been lying in the cans for a while.
Along with John, Vedaa starred Sharvari in the lead and it was directed by Nikkhil Advani. Sharvari is now gearing up for Alpha with Alia Bhatt for Aditya Chopra’s production house.
