Amidst the Kim Sae Ron and Kim Soo Hyun dating controversy, new claims have emerged asserting that actor may not have been involved in her tragic death.
In a new report on The Fact, Kim Sae Ron’s alleged ex-boyfriend, identified as Mr. K, disputed the family’s claims in his recent interview. According to the man, Kim Sae Ron fell into despair due to the indifference of her family rather than her alleged involvement with the actor.
Mr. K shared text messages exchanged with Kim Sae Ron, as well as messages sent by a man believed to be her “New York husband.” This man, whom the actress allegedly married in secret, sent abusive messages to Mr. K.
Explaining how she came to marry the man, Kim wrote, “At first, there was no expression, and every day was hard. I was so lonely because I had no one to lean on. It’s true I looked elsewhere for comfort. I needed someone who would listen and help. But that didn’t last. After that, he started threatening to leak our KakaoTalk chats and photos, hacked my Instagram, uploaded photos, hit me, cursed at me… I was terrified. I couldn’t break up with him, and I was scared it would affect you.”
Previously, Kim Sae Ron’s family had accused a YouTuber and actor Kim Soo Hyun of driving her to take her own life. They alleged that their actress daughter had been in a relationship with the actor while she was still underage. Furthermore, following her DUI incident and career suspension, they claimed that Kim Soo Hyun’s agency, Gold Medalist—reportedly owned by him and his family—demanded she repay a 700 million Won debt.
However, Mr. K contradicted these claims. Revealing a photo of an apparent ‘self-inflicted’ neck wound, he alleged that the actress was most deeply affected by her family’s lack of support. According to The Fact, Kim Sae Ron even tore the ligaments in her wrist during a self-harm incident that required emergency surgery.
The report states that despite her family being notified, they did not visit her in hospital. Mr. K stayed with her until she was discharged, while a staff member from her former agency covered the medical expenses.
Describing the indifference Kim faced at home, Mr. K stated, “When we arrived, her mother was casually dining with a friend and showed no surprise or sympathy. That kind of indifference is what made Sae Ron constantly want to run away from everything.”
Addressing the accusations against Kim Soo Hyun, Mr. K remarked, “As someone who truly knew her, I find it absurd that someone claiming to be her aunt is suddenly stepping in and using the family’s name to imply that her death was due to problems with Kim Soo Hyun.” He added, “I’ve never met Kim Soo Hyun, but I imagine he must feel wronged being blamed like this simply because he’s famous.”
To support his claims, Mr. K also provided an affidavit bearing his national ID number and fingerprint.
Amid the ongoing controversy, Kim Soo Hyun has suspended all public activities and his agency, Gold Medalist, has filed a criminal complaint against the YouTube channel Garosero Institute, which released photos and alleged he dated Kim Sae Ron while she was a minor.
