Netizens troll Aamir Khan for his comment on being depressed after divorcing Reena Dutta: 'Kiran always knew...'

Aamir Khan recently opened up about the emotional turmoil he faced following his divorce from his first wife, Reena Dutta. The actor, who has gone through two divorces, admitted that the end of his first marriage pushed him into a deep depression. However, his statement has sparked a mixed response from netizens, with many questioning why a similar reaction wasn’t evident after his separation from Kiran Rao.
In a recent interview with Instant Bollywood, Aamir revealed that his divorce from Reena Dutta had a profound impact on his mental health. While discussing his emotional struggles, the actor shared how he withdrew from work and turned to alcohol as a coping mechanism. However, some social media users appear sceptical about his claims, suggesting that his distress might have been more about his public image than the breakdown of his marriage.

Aamir Khan asked Kiran Rao ‘Mujhme Kya Kami Thi?’ after their divorce, filmmaker had a hilarious response

The statement went viral on Reddit, where one Redditor reacted by saying that things took a “Golmaal” turn only after his second marriage ended with Kiran Rao. Another netizen claimed that Aamir’s distress wasn’t about losing a relationship but rather about the public perception surrounding it. Allegations also resurfaced regarding Aamir’s alleged past relationships. One social media user wrote, “Aamir continued with Kiran (also Preity) during DCH, and Reena also got to know about that British journalist by then. Maamu knew exactly what he was doing and what was coming. Kiran always knew what Maamu was when she married him, knew about what he’d been up to all their married years, and finally got a good deal as a filmmaker and in terms of alimony when she divorced him. That’s why no depression.”

Another user wrote, “Yeah right, he was depressed because his affair got caught, and now he wants to play the victim by saying he was depressed. What about Reena ji, who got cheated on?”
Many of Aamir’s fans came to his defence, arguing that it is his right to choose whom to live with. One person reacted, “The hypocrisy of this sub. Talking about mental health and whatnot. And here is a guy who talks about it. And just look at the comments making fun of that. He was pretty young when he separated from Reena. It was probably overwhelming for him. Who are we to judge someone’s mental health? Is anybody a subject matter expert? And yet, everyone is confidently passing on their speculation as if they were in the room with these guys.”
During the interview, Aamir candidly shared how the heartbreak led him to alcohol dependency. He admitted that, despite being a teetotaler, he resorted to excessive drinking for nearly a year and a half.
“I wasn’t working or listening to scripts. I was alone at home, and for almost 1.5 years, I drank a lot. You will be shocked to know that I was a teetotaler. After the break-up, I didn’t know what to do. I couldn’t sleep at night, and I started drinking. From someone who didn’t drink at all, I became someone who drank an entire bottle in a day. I was like Devdas, someone trying to destroy themselves. I did that for 1.5 years. I was in a deep depression,” he shared.
Aamir and Reena were together for 16 years and have two children, Junaid and Ira. After their 2002 divorce, Aamir married Kiran Rao in 2005. They separated in 2021. Aamir has now introduced his girlfriend, Gauri Spratt, to the media on his 60th birthday.
