The 2025 Academy Awards took place on March 2 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, where the annual In Memoriam segment paid tribute to many late stars. The heartfelt montage was set to Mozart’s Requiem in D Minor and opened with a special tribute from Morgan Freeman to his longtime friend and co-star Gene Hackman, who passed away earlier this year. The segment honored renowned names such as Dame Maggie Smith, Donald Sutherland, James Earl Jones, and filmmaker David Lynch.
However, some notable names were left out of the tribute, despite their contributions to the entertainment industry.
Among those omitted was Linda Lavin, who passed away on December 29, 2024. Her representative had shared that she died unexpectedly due to complications from lung cancer. Lavin’s final role will be in Hulu’s upcoming comedy Mid-Century Modern.
Chance Perdomo, known for his roles in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Gen V, also did not appear in the segment. The actor tragically lost his life in March 2024 at just 27 years old following a motorcycle accident.
Fans were also surprised to see that Olivia Hussey, famous for portraying Juliet in Romeo & Juliet, was not included. Hussey passed away on December 27, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones.
Tony Roberts, who appeared in several classic films, died on February 7, 2025, at his home in New York City but was not mentioned in the tribute.
Similarly, Morgan Spurlock, the filmmaker behind Super Size Me, was missing from the segment. Spurlock died in May 2024 after a battle with cancer.
The omission of Martin Mull, known for his comedic roles, also raised eyebrows. He passed away on June 27, 2024, as confirmed by his daughter in a social media post.
Horror movie fans were saddened to see that Tony Todd, best known as the Candyman, was not featured. Todd passed away peacefully at his California home on November 6, 2024.
French cinema legend Alain Delon was another name absent from the segment. Delon passed away in August 2024, as confirmed by his family in a statement.
The absence of these stars from the tribute left many fans disappointed, as they had made significant contributions to film and television.
