Actor and filmmaker Prithviraj Sukumaran is busy promoting his highly anticipated action thriller ‘L2: Empuraan‘, starring Mohanlal. Recently, during a media interaction in Mumbai ahead of the film’s release on March 27, Prithviraj revealed that he was unaware that Nikhat Khan Hegde was Aamir Khan’s sister when casting her.
During the press meet on Thursday ( March 20), Prithviraj shared an interesting detail about casting Nikhat for the role of Subhadra Ben after her impressive audition. He had no idea about her connection with Aamir. “I said I liked her when I saw her audition. I said I wanted her. My casting director said, ‘Oh yeah, she’s wonderful. By the way, she’s also Aamir sir’s sister.’ I said, ‘Really?’ So then I called Aamir sir. I want to tell you, he just messaged me asking, ‘Is my sister good in the film?’ So I said, ‘Sir, she’s a lot better than good,’” he revealed.
Nikhat, known for her performances in Pathaan and Mission Mangal, plays a significant role in L2: Empuraan. Earlier, Prithviraj shared a post on social media unveiling her character poster: “Character No: 14. Presenting Nikhat Khan Hegde as Subhadra Ben in #L2E. The rise of #Empuraan continues! #L2E releasing on 27 March 2025.”
In an official video shared by the makers at the time, Nikhat described her character as a regal yet compassionate woman who owns a grand haveli. “Subhadra Ben is a royal lady who owns this huge haveli. She is regal but still has a lot of humanity in her. She supports and helps a group of people who are in trouble. She has a lot of love and resilience, but there’s also betrayal. Through Subhadra Ben, I got to explore different layers of emotion. I also feel honoured that I convey a very important message in this film,” she shared.
Ahead of the release, the makers of ‘L2: Empuraan’ set the internet on fire with a thrilling trailer on March 20. The film boasts an impressive cast, including Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Abhimanyu Singh, Eriq Ebouaney, Jerome Flynn, and Suraj Venjaramoodu, alongside Mohanlal. The film serves as the second instalment in a planned trilogy, following the blockbuster success of the 2019 hit Lucifer.
