Bollywood actress Rhea Chakraborty has been at the center of controversy for nearly five years following the tragic death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. On 14 June 2020, Sushant was found dead at his Bandra home, leading to widespread speculation and legal battles. Rhea, his former girlfriend, was accused of being involved in his death. However, after years of investigation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has closed the case, ruling it a suicide with no foul play involved.
Following this legal relief, Rhea visited Mumbai’s famous Siddhivinayak Temple with her father, Indrajit Chakraborty, and brother, Showik, to seek blessings, marking a new beginning after years of turmoil. She was seen in a simple cotton kurta, wearing no makeup, but her smile reflected her relief and happiness.
CBI closes the SSR case
The investigation into Sushant Singh Rajput’s death gained national attention, leading to inquiries by multiple agencies, including the Mumbai Police, the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), and the CBI. Rhea, who was in a relationship with Sushant at the time of his passing, faced severe backlash. She was accused of abetment to suicide and financial misconduct. Following this, Rhea and her brother, Showik Chakraborty, were arrested in a related drug case that surfaced during the investigation. However, the CBI’s final closure report states that there was no evidence of any crime, confirming that Sushant died by suicide, putting an end to years of speculation. The clean chit from the CBI has now cleared her of all allegations, bringing much-needed relief to her and her family.
Showik Chakraborty speaks out
While Rhea has remained silent about the CBI’s clean chit, her brother, Showik, took to social media to express his feelings. He posted a video of himself walking alongside Rhea on a mountain trail and captioned it with the Sanskrit phrase, “Satyameva Jayate.”
Support from the film industry
Many from the film industry have voiced their support for Rhea following the closure report. Actress Dia Mirza took to social media, demanding accountability from the media and those who falsely accused Rhea. She wrote, “Who in the media will have the grace to put out a written apology to Rhea Chakraborty and her family? You went on a witch hunt. You caused deep anguish and harassment just for TRPs. Apologize. That’s the very least you can do.”
