Saif Ali Khan jokes about divorce costs: ‘Can’t afford to keep getting divorced’

Saif Ali Khan, known for his candidness, recently opened up about the importance of liking one’s spouse while humorously referencing his divorce from his first wife, Amrita Singh. In an old interview with Anupama Chopra, Saif shared his thoughts on love, relationships, and the financial strain that comes with separation.

When asked about his statement that it is a “blessing to have a wife you like,” Saif laughed and admitted he should be careful with his words. However, he elaborated on the value of love in a marriage, explaining, “When you are in love, you don’t even realize you’re two different people. You like things about them, and you respect the way they live their life. It’s lucky to have that.”

In the same conversation, Saif humorously remarked on the financial burden of divorces, suggesting that it is not something a person can afford to do repeatedly. “I can imagine people not liking the ones they’re stuck with after a point. But you can’t afford to keep getting divorced, it costs a lot of money. So, people just deal with it if it’s a pleasure,” he joked.
Saif and Amrita Singh parted ways in 2004 after 13 years of marriage. Following their separation, Saif was reportedly required to pay Rs 5 crore as alimony. In a 2005 interview, he revealed that he had already paid Rs 2.5 crore and was committed to paying the remaining amount. Additionally, he shared that he was providing Rs 1 lakh per month for their son Ibrahim until he turned 18. Despite the financial strain, Saif emphasized his dedication to supporting his children, Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan.
    Respecting Amrita Singh Post-Divorce
Saif later spoke about his post-divorce relationship with Amrita during Koffee With Karan 8. Despite their differences, he acknowledged Amrita as a wonderful support and the mother of his children. He expressed regret over the impact of their separation on their kids but maintained that he shares a respectful and cordial relationship with his ex-wife.
