Sandeepa Dhar recalls reasons she faced rejections in films: '...nobody said to Om Puri ki aapke chehere pe gadde hai'

Sandeepa Dhar recently shares an anecdote about dealing with rejection in the industry and how she fought for her roles.
In conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Sandeepa opened up about dealing with rejection in the industry. She believes that talent ultimately speaks for itself and that exceptional actors get cast regardless of external factors. Using Om Puri as an example, she emphasized that strong performances outweigh superficial judgments.

She further highlighted Konkona Sen Sharma as a perfect example, praising her exceptional acting skills. She pointed out that despite Dharma Productions being known for its glamorous films, Konkona was cast because of her talent. She emphasized that in the end, strong performances matter more than appearance.

Sandeepa also expressed her desire to work in raw, gritty films like those of Anurag Kashyap, often set in rural settings. However, she faces typecasting due to her appearance. She believes in transformation through costumes, makeup, and styling, urging filmmakers to at least audition her before deciding on a role.
Sandeepa shared that she had to fight for roles, including convincing the makers of Abhay that she could portray a cop despite her petite frame. She acknowledged that many opportunities in the industry depend on connections, but she continues to push for roles based on merit rather than background.
In the crime thriller Abhay, Sandeepa Dhar portrayed Komal, a key character in the storyline. Starring Kunal Kemmu as investigating officer Abhay Pratap Singh, the series follows his hunt for dangerous criminals while battling his past.
