Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone are set to join forces once again for the highly anticipated sequel to the 2023 blockbuster ‘Pathaan’.
The superstar jodi, who belted out one of the biggest biggest box office hits in the Hindi film industry, are getting ready for the next chapter in their spy action-adventure film. ‘Pathaan 2‘, which is part of Yash Raj Films’ expanding Spy Universe, is confirmed to bring back SRK as the dashing RAW agent, along with Deepika who played the role of Rubina. Buzz is that Ashutosh Rana who played the role of Colonel Sunil Luthra, might also return for round two.
We have also learned that the team is still wrapping up work on the script. It wasn’t too long ago that screenwriter Abbas Tyrewala confirmed that the film’s script is nearly complete and awaiting the dialogue stage.
While there have been reports suggesting the film’s production schedule is already locked, we have learnt that it may not be the case just yet. Currently, Shah Rukh is busy filming ‘King’, where he shares screen space with his daughter, Suhana Khan. The film is slated for a mid-2026 release. Deepika, on the other hand, has been on a maternity break since welcoming daughter Dua last September.
Deepika will be only the second actress to return to the spy universe after Katrina Kaif, who played the role of Zoya in three instalments of the ‘Tiger’ franchise.
Meanwhile, producer Aditya Chopra is focused on expanding the YRF Spy Universe, which has already delivered hits like ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’, ‘War’, and ‘Pathaan’. The first female-led spy film ‘Alpha’ with Alia Bhatt in the lead, is also in production, awaiting its release along with Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s ‘WAR 2’.
However, in a surprising turn, ‘Pathaan 2’ will not likely be directed by Siddharth Anand, who helmed the original film.
