Shakira gets forced to cancel Colombia concert due to stage malfunction

Global music icon Shakira has been compelled to cancel her highly anticipated concert in Medellín, Colombia, following a serious stage malfunction that posed a significant risk to safety. The show, which was a part of her ongoing world tour had to be called off after the venue’s stage roof suffered unexpected damage during setup.
The concert was originally scheduled for February 24 at the Atanasio Girardot Stadium, but as preparations were underway, the event’s production team encountered a critical issue.A structural fault in the stage’s roofing system, installed by a local production company, raised concerns over the safety of both the artist and the audience.
Event organizers, Paramo Presenta, took to social media to inform fans about the unfortunate development, emphasizing that the singer’s well-being was their top priority. “The damage sustained by the stage roof during the setup process posed a direct safety threat, making it impossible to proceed with the event as planned,” the statement read.
While the concert was officially canceled, organizers remain hopeful about rescheduling the performance at a later date. However, no new date has been confirmed yet. Fans in Medellin, who had eagerly awaited Shakira’s homecoming performance, were left disappointed but reassured that safety was the foremost concern.
This is not the first setback for Shakira’s ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’ tour, which marks her first global tour in seven years. Just days before the Colombia concert, the singer had to cancel another show in Peru after being hospitalized for an abdominal condition. Though she has since recovered, back-to-back cancellations have raised concerns among fans regarding potential challenges in her tour schedule.
Despite these hurdles, the Grammy-winning superstar kicked off her tour in grand style earlier this month in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, shortly after winning a Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album. The tour, named after her upcoming album, features nearly 50 performances across Latin America before heading to North America with additional stops in the United States and Canada.
Before the Medellin concert was canceled, Shakira made an emotional visit to her hometown of Barranquilla, where thousands of fans gathered to welcome her at the Metropolitano Stadium. The singer expressed her gratitude to the crowd calling it a special moment in her journey.
Shakira’s world tour remains in full swing. According to her official website, she is set to perform in Bogota on February 28 and 29. Fans remain hopeful that the Medellin show will be rescheduled soon and that no further obstacles will disrupt the rest of her much-awaited tour.
With over 90 million records sold worldwide, Shakira continues to be one of the most influential and celebrated Latin artists of all time. While unforeseen challenges have impacted the tour’s schedule, her loyal fans eagerly await her return to the stage, ready to witness the magic she brings to live performances.
