Sunny Deol asks Bollywood to take lessons from South Indian movies: 'Wahin ja ke bas jaun main'

Sunny Deol is set to bring his signature action-packed energy with his upcoming film ‘Jaat’, directed by South filmmaker Gopichand Malineni in his Bollywood debut venture. At the film’s trailer launch in Mumbai, the veteran star made a bold proclamation about shifting his interest to South Indian movies and requested Bollywood producers to learn from the South.
During a recent media interaction, Sunny stated, “Yeh dhai kilo ke haath ki taakat poora North dekh chuka hai. Ab South dekhega (North India has seen the power of this hand, now it’s the turn of the South).”
Telugu filmmaker Gopichand Malineni’s ‘Jaat’ is backed by well-known producers in the South, known for distributing Allu Arjun’s ‘Pushpa 2’ and many other big-scale ventures. Following the massive success of ‘Gadar 2’ in 2023, Sunny is eager to explore new territories and reflected on his experience working with the team. He shared his admiration for the South’s storytelling approach. “I wish Bollywood producers would learn something from South producers. Make it Hindi cinema first, and then learn how to make cinema. The script is the hero there. I had so much fun that I’m already asking them to make another film with me. Kya pata wahin ja ke bas jau main (what if I just go and settle there),” he quipped.
Gopichand shared how he grew up watching Sunny’s action movies and became a fan of his from a very young age. “I watch them before starting all my films. ‘Ghatak’, ‘Ziddi’, ‘Damini’, which is my favourite. I want to reintroduce the Sunny Deol of ‘Damini’ to the audience,” he added.
Sunny also emphasised the importance of staying true to India’s cinematic roots. He shared that, due to foreign influence, people have forgotten what is happening in our own nation. He urged filmmakers to follow India’s true roots and make films like ‘Ghatak’, ‘Damini’, and ‘Arjun’.
