Tamannaah Bhatia has been making her mark in Bollywood after establishing herself as a leading actress in the South Indian film industry. In a recent interview, Tamannaah was asked if she would play a famous style icon in a film.
Without hesitation, she told IANS, “It would be Sridevi, ma’am. I think she was super iconic, and she’s someone I have always admired.” This is not the first time Tamannaah has expressed this desire; in a past interview with Mumbai Mirror, she said, “I have always looked up to Sridevi ji as a young girl. I always thought that if there’s a biopic that I would love to be a part of, I want to play Sridevi ji on celluloid.” This statement reflects Tamannaah’s deep respect for Sridevi and her dream to bring the legendary actress’s story to the big screen.
Sridevi’s career lasted over five decades, during which she acted in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada films. She started as a child artist at the age of four in the Tamil film ‘Kandhan Karunai’ (1967). As she grew older, Sridevi took on leading roles and quickly became known for her versatility. She could perform in intense dramas as well as lighthearted comedies with ease.
During the 1980s and 1990s, she starred in several hit Hindi films. Some of her most loved roles include the brave journalist Seema in ‘Mr. India’ (1987), the double role of twin sisters in ‘ChaalBaaz’ (1989), and a woman suffering from memory loss in ‘Sadma’ (1983). Her ability to make audiences laugh, cry, and connect with her characters made her India’s leading female superstar.
Sridevi was not just a talented actress; she changed the way female actors were seen in the industry. She became one of the highest-paid stars of her time and inspired many young women to pursue acting. Her sudden passing on 24 February 2018 shocked the world. Fans and fellow actors mourned her deeply, and her influence on cinema remains strong even today. Although there is no official news about a Sridevi biopic being made yet.
On the work front, Tamannaah is set to star in the Telugu supernatural thriller ‘Odela 2,’ directed by Ashok Teja and written by Sampath Nandi. A sequel to ‘Odela Railway Station,’ the film is inspired by real events in Telangana’s Odela village. Tamannaah leads alongside Hebah Patel and Vasishta N. Simha. Additionally, she has joined forces with Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt in ‘Ranger,’ an action-packed thriller.
