‘The Diplomat,’ which features John Abraham in the titular role, made it to the theatres on Friday, March 14. The film opened with decent numbers and even proved the predictions of a slow start wrong. Over the first weekend, it maintained a steady pace at the box office, but on Monday, the film saw a sharp dip. The same has been witnessed in the early estimated numbers of its first Tuesday. According to Sacnilk, the film only collected Rs. 1.40 crore on Tuesday, taking the overall collection after a run of five days at the theatres – Rs.16.20 crore.
The film opened with Rs 4.03 crore on Friday, and with a 16 percent rise, it made Rs 4.65 crore on Saturday. It maintained the same number on Sunday as well, but the weekday came as the challenge. The movie saw a drop of more than 60 percent and the film collected Rs.1.50 crore on Monday, with a further dip, on Tuesday, the film minted only Rs. 1.40 core.
Based on real events, ‘The Diplomat’ is a story of a girl trapped in Pakistan. She was deceived in love, and the man she got married to became her worst nightmare. In an attempt to break her shackles, she tries to seek help from the Government, where a diplomat, JP Singh plays a pivotal role in her rescue.
Directed by Shivam Nair, the film has John Abraham as the Indian diplomat JP and Sadia Khateeb as Uzma, the Indian girl who seeks help for rescue.
The box office numbers saw a dip, but words of praise for John Abraham’s work are still pouring in. The audience and critics have applauded his performance alike. Thus, the makers remain hopeful about the box office success.
However, the coming days at the box office will be harder, as right now the film is only facing competition with ‘Chhaava;’ soon new releases will also pose a new challenge. ‘Snow White’, a a much-awaited children’s film releasing this weekend will add to the pressure.
