When Rachel Zegler passed a controversial remark on Snow White, sparking a debate among fans

Rachel Zegler, the ‘Snow White’ in the live-action remake, has sparked a debate among the Disney aficianados, getting the film in the threads of controversies on social media. While her character is known to have a modern take, Zegler claimed that she will no longer be the damsel in distress, nor she will have a ‘stalking boyfriend.’

    Rachel’s Controversial Comments

In an interview with Variety, the ‘West Side Story’ actor expressed, “I just mean that it’s no longer 1937, and we absolutely wrote a Snow White that’s not gonna be saved by the prince, and she’s not gonna be dreaming about true love,” stating that the live-action will be different from the classic tale and will focus on themes of leadership – not waiting for her prince to save her.
“She’s dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be and the leader that her late father told her she could be if she was fearless, fair, brave, and true. And so, it’s just a really incredible story for young people everywhere to see themselves in,” the actress added.
In an interview with Extra TV, Rachel expressed about how the 1937’s cartoon focused on the love story with the guy who “stalks her.” “Weird, weird. So we didn’t do that this time,” she added.
Many fans exclaimed that she was disrespecting the original tale, dismissing the cultural impact the cartoon created over the generations. Additionally, Zegler being cast as ‘Snow White’ caused an ethnic debate where the fans were questioning a Latin actress being casted. However, Rachel did not hesitate to share her excitement for the role, “It was the honour of a lifetime. I think every young person dreams about a phone call like that. This one is certainly extra special as a huge Disney fan” during the interview with Good Morning America.
