Former Indian Cricketer Yograj Singh revealed his plans if he were to get the role of Indian head coach. Speaking to former U19 World cup winner Taruwar Kohli’s podcast ‘find a way’, Yograj Singh wanted to back Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to the hilt, by making them play Ranji Trophy matches.
Yograj Singh compared the stalwarts as diamonds and stressed the need to protect them. He also revealed that he would make Rohit Sharma run for 20 Kilometres every day.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli endured contrasting fortunes in the red ball and white ball formats. The duo won the T20 world cup and Champions Trophy in a span of 9 months, after going through more than 10 years without an ICC trophy. However, they hit a roadblock in the longest format of the game.
Yograj Singh, father of Yuvraj Singh, also offered to coach the Pakistan cricket team and rebuild it within a year, criticising former Pakistani players for prioritising commentary and financial gains over mentoring young players.
Rohit & Kohli’s lean run
Rohit Sharma scored 164 runs at an average of 10.9 in the 8 Test matches he played since the start of the Indian home season last September. Rohit registered only one fifty, and failed to enter double-digits on 10 occasions. The captain opted out of the final Test match of the 5-match series against Australia, when the series was still on the line at 2-1.
Virat Kohli fared slightly better than Rohit in the same period. In 19 Innings, Kohli made 382 runs at an average of 22.5, He started the Australia tour by scoring a fluent century in the season opener at Perth. However, his form nose-dived and managed just 85 runs in the next four matches. Kohli mostly got out to balls outside the off stump. India lost the series 3-1 to Australia and failed to qualify for the final of the World Test Championship, set to be played in June.
India tour of England, 2025
