Zahan Kapoor, the grandson of legendary actor Shashi Kapoor and cousin of Ranbir and Kareena Kapoor, recently grabbed attention with his role in Vikramaditya Motwane’s ‘Black Warrant‘. The young actor shared an amusing anecdote, revealing that Hrithik Roshan was the first ‘superstar’ for him.
In a recent interview with NDTV, Zahan Kapoor was asked when he first watched the cult classic ‘Sholay‘. Reminiscing about his childhood, he admitted that it was ‘Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai’ that had initially left a lasting impact on him.
“Hrithik Roshan is the first superstar for me. Shah Rukh Khan sir aur Aamir Khan mere liye vo shayad thode pehle ke the, toh mera connection actually bachpan mein Hrithik Roshan ke saath hua with Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai. Aur main aur mera dost, hum dono ne jab dekha, hum pagal ho gaye the,” he recalled.
Zahan fondly remembered how obsessed he was with the film, even buying a VCD copy to watch it repeatedly. He also revealed that he owned a sheer black shirt, which he would wear while dancing on his bed to songs from the film. His admiration for ‘Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai’ was so strong that he once told his mother, Sheena Sippy—who is also the daughter of Sholay director Ramesh Sippy—that no film could ever surpass it.
However, this remark did not sit well with his mother, who insisted he watch Sholay to understand true cinematic greatness. “Tab majboori mein dikhaya mujhe ki yeh dekho… Sholay, aur uske baad mujhe pata chala ki Sholay kya film hai aur sahi mein bohot zyada hi kamaal ki picture hai vo,” he shared, revealing that he was around 12 or 13 years old when he first watched the film.
Zahan Kapoor’s ‘Black Warrant’ premiered on OTT in January this year.
