Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, known for directing stars like Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, and Alia Bhatt, recently sparked a buzz during an interview with Komal Nahta on his podcast Game Changers. When asked to choose between the two actresses, Imtiaz picked Alia, leading to the resurfacing of an old video where Deepika claimed to be his favourite.
During the rapid-fire round, Imtiaz Ali chose Alia Bhatt over Deepika Padukone. Following this, Reddit users unearthed an old Film Companion interview where Deepika claimed that she and Imtiaz were each other’s favourites. Interestingly, Alia was also present during that conversation, making the resurfaced clip even more intriguing.
In the resurfaced video, Deepika Padukone had said, ‘Imtiaz wrote Cocktail, but he directed Tamasha. We are each other’s favourites.’ Reacting to this, a Reddit user shared the clip with the caption, “Imtiaz really gave her a reality check,” sparking discussion online.
The resurfaced video led to netizens calling Deepika ‘delusional.’ While one wrote, “This is embarrassing,” another one added, “Oops, Deepu… ultimate betrayal.”
However, some others came out in defense of Deepika. One wrote, ‘Actually, Deepika is being generous when she says he’s also her favourite. Tamasha was a bad movie about a man-child needing to be fixed by someone. These directors and actors keep changing their favourites based on the current trend—there’s no real loyalty.’
Another one added, ‘I love how someone waited for years for his answer to change just to make this edit. He picked Deepika for the same question during his Koffee with Karan appearance. Maybe Alia’s recent performances made him appreciate her more. What a petty post.’
Deepika Padukone has collaborated with Imtiaz Ali on Love Aaj Kal (with Saif Ali Khan) and Tamasha (with Ranbir Kapoor). She also starred in Cocktail, which was written by Imtiaz. Meanwhile, Alia Bhatt worked with the filmmaker in Highway, a performance that earned her widespread acclaim.
Deepika Padukone was last seen in Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again, featuring Ajay Devgn, Tiger Shroff, Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, and Arjun Kapoor. The film grossed Rs 372 crore worldwide. While fans eagerly await her next move, Deepika has yet to announce her upcoming project.
Alia Bhatt was last seen in Jigra, which struggled at the box office. Up next, she stars in YRF’s spy universe film Alpha alongside Sharvari. She also has Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War in the pipeline, keeping fans excited for her upcoming projects.
