Yuzvendra Chahal, the renowned Indian cricketer, and Dhanashree Verma, a choreographer and social media influencer, have officially ended their marriage. The couple, who got married in December 2020, had reportedly been living separately for approximately 18 months before their divorce was finalized on 20 March 2025. The Mumbai Family Court granted the divorce decree, Chahal’s advocate, Nitin Kumar Gupta, told ANI, “The court has granted the divorce, and both parties are no longer husband and wife.”
Dhanashree-Chahal alimony amount
Before the finalization, there was widespread speculation regarding the alimony amount, with some reports suggesting a figure as high as ₹60 crore. However, these claims were refuted by Dhanashree’s family, who stated, “No such amount has ever been asked, demanded, or even offered. There is no truth to these rumors whatsoever.” According to a Bar and Bench report, the alimony amount was Rs. 4.75 crore, with Chahal having already paid Rs. 2.37 crore, and the remaining amount to be settled post-divorce.
Social media backlash against Dhanashree
Amidst all of this, Dhanashree recently shared a glimpse of her new music video on Instagram, which prompted a flood of negative comments from netizens. Users flooded the comments section with criticism. One user sarcastically inquired, “Mam, how much credit ho gya account m 4.75 cr?” Another commented, “Gairo ke paiso se video shoot karate dekha.” Some comments went further, questioning her self-respect, with remarks like, “How can she live with his money? Doesn’t she have any self-respect left?” Additionally, derogatory terms such as “chorni” (thief) were used, and “Aapda ko avsar me badal diya,” “If asking for dowry is a crime, then so is alimony,” another comment read, and references were made to a slogan on Chahal’s T-shirt that read, “Be your own sugar daddy,” which he wore on the day of the divorce, attracting considerable attention.
Some netizens said, “Stop blaming a woman…”
Despite the criticism, many fans came to Dhanashree’s defense as well. Supportive comments included, “Stop blaming a woman when you don’t know the truth. You don’t know what she was going through. And it’s their personal life.” Another supporter wrote, “Dhana, tum aage baado ham tumhare saath hai. Maybe this song is based on her relationship….”
The couple’s relationship began during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, with Chahal approaching Dhanashree for dance lessons. Their bond quickly evolved, leading to their marriage in December 2020. However, by mid-2022, reports of marital discord surfaced, culminating in their separation and eventual divorce.
