Actor-politician Ramya, also known as Divya Spandana, has weighed in on the box office failure of Kangana Ranaut’s directorial venture Emergency.

Speaking at the Bengaluru International Film Festival, Ramya stated that the film’s poor execution was the primary reason for its rejection by audiences, not Kangana’s personal or political views.
Kangana’s ‘Emergency’, which depicted the controversial period of the Indian Emergency with the actress portraying former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, faced multiple delays before its release on January 17. Despite its grand scale and a reported budget of Rs 60 crore, the film underperformed, earning just Rs 23.75 crore worldwide, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.

During the panel discussion, Ramya contrasted ‘Emergency’ with Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi (2019), another historical film starring and co-directed by Kangana, which performed significantly better. She emphasized that Manikarnika was well-received because of its strong content and execution.
“Emergency was a badly made film. Kangana Ranaut is a very talented actress, and it has nothing to do with her as a person. But that movie was bad, and that is why the audience rejected it. Kangana also made Manikarnika, and that was a hit because the content was good and the audience liked it,” Ramya said, as reported by Hindustan Times.
Kangana Ranaut donned the director’s cap for the political drama movie, which follows the incidents that happened under the leadership of Mr. Indira Gandhi, played by Kangana.
Apart from Kangana Ranaut, ‘Emergency’ also featured the actors Vishak Nair, Mahima Chaudhry, Anupam Kher, Satish Kaushik and Milind Soman in pivotal roles.
Meanwhile, Kangana’s previous outing was the action flick ‘Tejas’ which was written and directed by Sarvesh Mewara.
