Actress Sandeepa Dhar has voiced her concerns over Bollywood celebrities openly discussing their cosmetic procedures. In a recent interview, she criticised the casual approach taken by some stars when admitting to Botox and other enhancements, arguing that it sends the wrong message to young audiences.
In a recent conversation with TellyChakkar, Sandeepa reflected on the pressure of ageing in the entertainment industry, particularly for female actors. She noted how actresses are often made to feel like they have an expiry date and are expected to maintain a flawless appearance at all times. She shared that actresses are constantly told that they have a shelf life. Being in an industry where visual appeal is paramount, there is immense pressure to look a certain way, even as one gets older. However, as they age, facial lines and other signs of ageing become a major concern. She called ageing a beautiful process but admitted that the industry often makes one feel otherwise.
“As I’m growing older, I have come to realise that every line on my face tells a story and only adds to my character. I don’t need to succumb to injections and surgeries to look like a 21-year-old. I’m not 21,” she stated.
Sandeepa further criticised celebrities who downplay the seriousness of cosmetic procedures. She referenced a recent interview in which an actress openly admitted to undergoing enhancements, saying, “Haan, maine toh do-teen cheezein karayi hain (Yes, I have got two or three things done). What’s the big deal? I’ll own up to it.” Expressing her disagreement with this mindset, she asserted that it is, in fact, a big deal.
“It’s an operation; it’s a serious thing you’re doing. There are 16- and 17-year-old girls out there who will collect money from various sources and say, ‘I want to change this about myself.’ Do you know how many people die on those operating tables? It’s very risky; it’s a surgery at the end of the day,” she emphasised.
The actress stressed the importance of undergoing surgeries only in cases where it is a medical necessity.
Last year, Khushi Kapoor made headlines after revealing that she had undergone cosmetic procedures, including a nose job and fillers. Many stars, such as Shruti Haasan and Janhvi Kapoor, have also addressed the same in their past media interactions.
